outlook express

04/03/2008 6:04 PM

I tried to download a copy of microsoft 2007 and it "refused" but screwed up my settings for my existing outlook express, which I cannot now access (for work). I tried reinstalling the service pack, as recommended on a website, but it gave me an old Outlook Express account and still no access to the server "server cannot be found". My bad for trying to get a free copy, but did Bill Gates do this on purpose.? I tried the various solutions I found online, save run type instructions etc. tried to import but still have a server connect problem. ant advice for a still-learning computer illiterate...?

Go into tools and accounts and properties and check your name and password and incoming and outgoing.

I have a similar problem with Windows Vista Ultimate and Windows Email as the default email pogram. I would rather have Outlook but I cannot get it from Microsoft without reverting back to Win XP or 2000.

Anyone have an answer for this issue?

Have you tried the microsoft knowledge database? They have several patches for the problem there. If that doesnot work and you have checked all of your connnection settings in explorer , which should be the same access to get to your mail, and checked all of your mail and password settings, make sure it lists that your mail program is the default handler. If none of that works , it will be easier to just reinstall what ever windows program you are using and start fresh. Yes , Ithink they do it on purpose sometimes just to make more money off of people.

Or you could just forget about outlook express. I had a lot of troubles setting mine up especially to be accessed from different computers. I'm now using Mozilla Thunderbird. Everyone knows Mozilla Firefox, well Thunderbird is their email application.

Like Firefox compared to outlook express, Thunderbird is much easier and straightforward to use.

I know you wanted a solution to outlook express, so i don't know if this really helps you, but if you get frustrated with OE like i did, then thunderbird is the way

Try this: [it may or may not work - but can't hurt]

Repair Internet Explorer

Start/Control panel/Add or remove/

On the left side click add or remove Windows components

Highlight Internet Explorer and click next

Just as above, I was very frustrated with outlook express. I switched to Thunderbird and it works very well. However, my system is running WIN 2000 that includes outlook express 6 (w/service pack 1) and windows will not allow it to be deleted. The problem I'm having is that automatic updates is constantly trying to install a security update (KB941202) to outlook express and it fails the installation every time. Does anyone know where to get a download of outlook express 6 that is not bundled with Internet Explorer. This is because WIN2K cannot accept the newer versions of IE that are for XP/Vista only, but the older versions of IE don't have outlook express 6.

Go to Windows update in IE and check the update off so it never popup again. At least you can use it without the annoying update.
