Microsoft Office Outlook - Emailing

04/02/2008 12:31 AM

Hi everyone,

I am wanting to add a wave file/sound clip to my email that will play automatically when the email is opened. I am currently working with newest edition of outlook

  1. Is it possible?
  2. How do I do this?
  3. Also if the receiver has an older edition will it be compatible?

Thank you

Hi Sustainergy,

If you succeed in adding sound to the opening of an email then please be good enough to never send me an email.

There are enough nuisances in emails as it is.

Cheers

BigBird

I'm sure it can be done but you will have a big problem using it do to firewalls which will flag it and not deliver your e-mail...My recomendation....Stick with text.....

Good luck....

Someone want's to record a 1 minute clip and use that. Would this be to difficult?

Hmm....not sure, I have Incredimail loaded but only use it for the occasional fun mail, I think it would be very irritating to get those mails all of the time. They must use a wav file or similar which you could record yourself. I'll try to find some time to play with it over this weekend.

I will try and explain in a simple a way as possible why you should not waste your time trying to do this:-

An program that automatically runs from an email (an executable), will automatically be thought of by any (halfway good) Anti-virus software as being a Virus, as that is one of the many ways that viruses are sent. Therefore it will not be activated.....and may be labeled as a Virus (giving your friends a shock that you are distributing a Virus!!) or just thrown away as Spam.

So what you want to do is absolutely pointless.....

If you want to send someone a short sound byte, just send it as a data (.MP3 or .WMA for instance) and let them activate it just by clicking on it. Do not send anyone executable software.....that time when that should function has long passed......anyone who's PC lets that run today is living in a Fool's Paradise!!!!

You would think that the people who make Incredimail (post#6) would have thought of that. I've never received mail from this system but I will try sending something with embedded sound & animation from my home PC to work at the weekend and report the outcome on Monday.

Please "clean" both PCs beforehand from all "Malware"and then see what you have "gained" on them afterwards......

Use both "AdAware" and "Spybot Search and Destroy" if you have nothing better to clean both PCs first...........

Do not forget, nothing is for free.....maybe Incredimail is not dangerous software, but remember, if your Anti virus is told to "trust" it, then anything that it does afterwards is allowed.....

I use Adaware, Spybot, Defender, Anti-virus, Anti-spam etc. at home but, as you say, my PC regards Incredimail as a safe programme.

The work PC is well protected & I have never had a bad report from any recipients of Incredimail messages, we'll see how it goes.

It occurred to me that Incredimail users often add their own backgrounds, animations etc. looking on their site here it describes how to use a wav or midi file as a 'play once' or continuous background sound. You can download the free version of Incredimail to try, it's fully functional & has no 'nasties' attached. The paid for version only allows you access to more galleries of effects but the free one has enough for most people anyway.

As I said in another post I'll try this over the weekend to see what the anti-virus & anti-spam make of it.

Half the world is blocking executable codes and files in email now, I hope. First your email will not be delivered. Second if its delivered, code execution should be blocked.

To do it you'll need to add script to load and execute the attached sound file.

Re: Microsoft Office Outlook - Emailing

Sorry to be a bit later than promised coming back to this thread, I got a bit sidetracked.

I can now report that I have sent an Incredimail message containing both animation & sound from my home PC to work. The mail got through the anti-virus & anti-spam engines without difficulty & the animation and sound played in both the open mail & the Outlook preview pane when the mail was selected.

The mail shows an attachment in the main Outlook window but no attachment is shown when the mail is opened.

Does this help?

Did you previously mention which anti virus software you are running on both machines? If not, could you be so kind. Thanks in advance.

Home machine uses CA Anti-virus suite, work uses Grisoft AVG, both updated daily.
