Only feasable way to stop junk mail

Disconnect from the Internet.

Look up "Spam Bayes"

Its a Java based Spam program, then send it to a folder, right click and configure "Archival" and set to delete after a certain period of time..

My home account I have about 800 SPAM E-mails a day.. and growing ;o(

Depending on who your internet supplier you can stop spam and junk mail at the source on your internet e-mail server before it gets downloaded to outlook. All your email comes from an internet server and most offer spam and junk mail blockers all you have to do is turn them on, some even have smart blockers that learn as they go and most are free....

Good luck.

Gmail does a good job of seperating out spam to a Spam File. You can totally ignore it and not bother to open it, in which case Gmail will dump it every 30 days, or you can run your eye down the headings in case a legitimate email gets included.

The pleasure comes in hitting "Delete all spam messages now?" and the sheer delight of thumping "Yes" when it asks "Are you sure you want to delete all 958 messages?"

All very well and good.... *until* the number of spam messages floods your email box on the server and your main account gets denied relay due to excessive storage space, that spam has taken up...

I grab all mail from my ISP, linux pulls 90% of it with Spamd, then on the local system gets 98%, and the other 2% no matter what you do, gets thru still

I have used G-mail since 2004. Their spam filter is amazing, and very easy to train. When I signed up for Gmail, my company e-mail account averaged a dozen spam e-mails a day, while that same account blocked at least two or three legitimate e-mails every week.

G-mail, on the other hand, never lets a second spam from a rejected source come through, and the sender of a legitimate e-mail is never mis-identified as a spammer more than once. G-mail's thirty-day grace period for spam gives the user plenty of time to check for mistakes, but I now check the contents of the spam folder at least every other day, because the daily spam count is always more than fifty. Going through seven or eight hundred spam e-mails at once is too time-consuming. It isn't all drudgery, however. Some of the subject lines are very funny in a sleazy sort of way.

G-mail also has a POP3 server, so that mail from your G-mail account can be downloaded with Outlook Express, or with almost any other POP3 e-mail client.

I used to think that golf balls and Viaga spam ruled, but after my daughter took the SATs colleges took over. Amazing.

I agree that the Gmail spam filter is excellent. I've had good results with the Computer Associates spam filter, but their virus protection isn't very good. The Norton spam filter is OK. The Microsoft filter in Outlook is improving. I don't know about the Express filter, but I imagine it will take as much time to train as the Outlook one, which will be months.

Go to the PC world website and do a search, they might have a better answer.

I made the mistake of answering one junk email thing and from then on i got flooded every day. I use satellite ISP and they have a pretty good filter that you can set up to delete things with certain words. I am sure I probably do delete a good one every now and then by setting up the spam filter to be aggressive but I figure if it is real important the sender will find a way to get up with me. (phone, mail etc.) Anyway after several months of adjusting the spam filter I seem to be getting all the e-mails that I would normally get with out to much junk.

One of my friends has a slight problem with spam filters, his name when you prune off letters has the word "anal" and this happens to be a triggure word :P

In my yute, I set my return address to mikeyourpants@yahooo.com and set my sig file to read "Remove your pants to reply". All was well and good until I emailed my supervisor from that account.

Another possible helper that I use is when asked for an email address by companies that "might" misuse it, give them one of those free "Hotmail" or similar addresses......never you "good" private email address.....

But a good provider Spam filter is also a good idea anyway.....really you need both I feel.

I'm finding the new hotmail spam "filter" is blocking more than just spam ;o(

I cannot send legit E-mails to any customers from here at work if any of them are using Hotmail, as they bounce the mails, for whatever reason.

You did not read and fully understand exactly what I wrote (sorry for that!).

I meant that any suspect companies that require an email address would just get the Hotmail (or similar) address.

Not for you to use it as your standard email address!!!!

That way, suspect mailings would NEVER land on your "good" email address wherever that is!!

You missed the point (sadly) by about 180° degrees.......also, you should try reading slower and more carefully at the same time.......

That the spam filter at Hotmail spams everything, well is that not even better????

I have found that thunderbird also handles "threaded" messages better ;o)
