The "Science" of Superman

06/27/2006 1:25 PM

Faster than a speeding bullet, more powerful than a locomotive, able to leap tall buildings in a single bound...

If Superman did exist, how would his powers function and what kind of personal power source would he need to run them? National Geographic News does a pretty good job of deconstructing them. I especially like the discussion of "X-ray vision", which in reality could not have anything to do with X-rays. It would have to be sonar or something along those lines.

Enjoy!

That explains a lot, but....

Why, after some villain empties 6 bullets from his revolver at Superman's chest, with the lead bullets just falling to the floor, does Superman always duck when the villain throws his empty pistol at Superman?

I think this should be a Challenge question!

Because George Reeves wasn't Superman, he was just an actor playing him.

The real superman would have used his super breath to blow the gun back at the thug and knocked him out, thus preserving "Truth, Justice and the American Way."

Superman

07/06/2006 6:00 PM

Well, first of all Superman has been my hero for years. And since his powers are derived from the sun of our planet, it is possible his powers could be limitless and there could be or would be no logical explanation for his powers or how they work. This is a discussion that is right up there with "Is there a God?" If you believe there is, than there is and if not, well good luck with that. (or there is not.) Why you may ask is Supperman my hero? He represents all that is ultimately good in all people - period. Besides if your going to aspire to be something, aspire to be something truly great! And a good comic book can provide complete escape from the entire world of stress and lets your imagination run wild, and I really like how lately Wonder Woman has gotten really HOT! She can lasso me anytime. We are but mere mortals, who dream of Gods and superheros, because we need something greater than us to make the workd a better place, because we fail in acheiving true world harmony.
