Area of shear (perimeter x thickness) x shear strength of material is the basic formula.

There must be a consideration here for the method of blanking.

Are you using a straight edge punch without any cutting angle or are you using a pointed, trapezoidal shaped punch for cut/shear?

As an example, you can cut thin foil with snips but if you tried to force the single blade through it in one go over the full length, touching it flat everywhere, you would feel a distinct increase in force.

Try the Encyclopedia "Wikipedia": sheet metal.

Forming metal on a press brake

Since 30 years ago, I participated as a trainee a training course to calculate the power of cutting and bending of a press brake, but unfortunately, I missed these lectures.

Yes there is a formula, I can not remember right now how it is. It is quite complicated actually because there are so many factors to consider in this process. The most important factors are: The strength of the material; length of cutting edge; and/or size of the area if blanking with cutter 90° to material. Also there is one factor to consider- that is the speed, how fast will you need this to work are you in mass production or only for garage use? If you are making this for hobby you are good with 3-5 ton hydraulic jack.
