I would like to know how do you convert the HT amps say 87A to LV amps and

vice versa, LV amps at 3445 to HT amps ? pls advise....

Current is inversely proportional to voltage.For example for 3phase 100Kva load current at 400 V (LV) is 145 Amps at 11KV 5.25A,at33KV 1.75A and so on and at 132KV0.438A.

Hope u got it

i get you. you are assuming that my P is constant in this case as in P = IV, hence

I = k/V.

However, pls explain how u obtain 145A at 400V from 100KVA ?

Hello Khong,

VS x IS = Vp X Ip

Now take it ahead from here...

cheers.

ok say you have a transformer of 500 kva (Step down ) 13.8kv > 380 volts at 750 amps.

You want to know the primary ( 13.8 kv ) side amps...

so....Vp X Ip= VsXIs

Vp = 13800 volts (Primary voltage)

Ip = ? (Primary Current)

Vs = 380 volts (Secondary voltage)

Is= 750 amps(Seconday Current)

13800 X Ip = 380 X 750

Ip = (380 x 750)/13800 = 20.65 amps

Use this formula to calculate the value in your case....

Cheers.

Thx all, i hv got the answer for the conversion. Over here my country we practice at 415 V and 11000 V. Simplest make it a constant for easy operation:

1A HT = 26.5A LV (round-up) , it may not be as accurate as 11000/415 = 26.51

It is especially useful when i am at site sub station so that i dun mix up the current topology and the data shown in the display .

Many thx again...

Sorry guys, I have always wondered about this.

What does HT (high tension) mean? Are you using it to mean HV (high voltage)?

Re: HT amps vs LV amps

hei u r rite actuly...in fact there are a few categories here LV (low voltage), MV (medium voltage) and HV (high voltage). over my place here, the term HT (high tension) was use vastly to mean voltage above 415V (LV). so by default HT does mean HV.

then again for specific terms LV for 415V, MV for 11kv, 33kv and HV for 132kv and thereafter. pls correct me if i am wrong for the categorize. thx.
