The Power to Become Cleaner

06/30/2006 12:29 PM

Utilities worldwide have initiated more than 3,800 air pollution control projects slated for completion within the next eight years. Particulate removal accounts for the largest number of projects. In the McIlvaine Company online database Utility Environmental Upgrade Tracking System and the companion World Power Generation Projects, Bob McIlvaine identifies these projects at nearly 3,900 existing coal-fired plants and almost 800 plants under construction or being planned.

Nine hundred and fifty boiler units already have scrubbers and another 950 are planned. More than 830 selective catalytic reduction systems (SCR) are already in operation. But in the next eight years, more will be added than are now in place. And many of the newest projects will use fabric filters.

With all this talk of "cleaner energy" why does nuclear power sound more and more promising. Still not to sure about the 10,000 year half life though.
