Test Equipment Maker Struggles

07/01/2006 12:55 PM

Why is it so hard to break into the test equipment marketplace? VerigyLtd, semiconductor test-equipment manufacturer and spin-off of Agilent, is struggling as its stock price hovers around its initial public offering price. Singapore-based Verigy, like other semiconductor test equipment manufacturers, faces a cyclical semiconductor industry, pricing pressures, long sales cycles, and the challenge of convincing companies to switch brands in spite of the steep initial cost. The San José Mercury News reports that Verigy's expected lower expenses associated with cutting 300 people and consolidating operations will be limited by additions in lower-cost locations. How do you view the test equipment market?

Anything to do with agilent is doomed

07/03/2006 4:20 AM

After woring for a firm which was aquired by Hewlett Packard (the former name for Agilent) it's simple the reason there struggling. It's the managment! It doesn't matter if you've got the bast product in the world if the Managment structure is crap your doomed. After Years of seing middle managment cocking up and instead of being dissaplined or fired they get a promotion into another area so they can cock up even bigger It makes sence the agilent have just moved all these managers to one area (Test Equipment) and sailed it off to it's doom. On another note the test eqipment Agilent make is Well expensive (even to there internal customers)That other suppliers are more attractive.
