The location of the instrument tappings in process viewpoint

04/12/2008 2:10 AM

Hello everyone!

Please tell me...

Are there any process limitations in where to locate the instrument tappings on pipelines?

I want to know if there is any problem in installing the pressure and temperature guages near the choke valve ( upstream of the choke valve) at the beginning of the gas process line?

Thank you

Try to allow for as many pipe diameters as possible before and after your tappings, 5-10 minimum if your readings are important. If they are just for daily reporting you can put them closer but put a valve in the tapping lines just in case you need to dampen your input signals.

Depending what you need them for, don't they prescribe where you should put them?

I always thought that any aperture, or change in, caused a pressure differential over that item. This means that up and down stream of a choke valve, you will find pressure irregularities that do not transpose to the nominal pressure in the whole of the pipe. Also the same with bends and branches.

All instruments shall be located at straight pipe only. The straight pipe required to be maintained is Minimum 5 times of the pipe size before any bends, valves etc...

For correct reading try to utilise the syphon for the pressure gauge, snubber for the thermo meter.

thanks, regards,
