Distance measuring sensor 50micron accuracy

04/16/2008 2:03 AM

hi all,

I needed a non-contact sensor or any other mean which could tell the distance in at least 50microns accuracy. The measuring distance is around 200-300mm with the measuring range of +/-30% full scale. And the sensing point should have minimal say less than 2mm diameter. The output can be either digital or analog. I tried with fiberoptic and laser sensors.

The fiberoptic and photoelectric sensors are giving the varying output for different colors. The laser sensor with triangularization works good. But the problem is it's expensive.

What are you trying to measure?

Can it be a contact gage if the force used is extremly light, and controled well.

Contact Force controlled to sya around 5-10 grams....

If that would be Ok, look @ SMAC actuators. These actuators are applied to precise measurment applicationsvery successfully in various envirioments. They have encoder resolutions from 5 to 0.1um and even lower.

The website is www.smac-mca.com

Very affordable compared to a laser system.

Thanks for the reply.

The problem is i am using a lot many materials to mark or deep engrave by laser machine.

The marking components be of almost anykind like jewellery ring, bangles, necklace and any automobile components.

The problem is my ring is very small and intrigate. It is very difficult to touch the inside of ring by the probe.

Thats why i am prefering non contact type.

Thanks!

The accuracy you are demanding will require a laser interferometer. Machine tool builders and people that aligh and calibrate CNC machines use this technology .

Is there any particular company supply this?

And what would be the model and the approximate cost?

Thanks!

Eddy current probes and proximitirs can give readings in that accuracy.

We use it all the time for steam turbine case and differential expansion .

Search the Internet for Bently Nevada proximitors .
