Fiber Compression

How much saw dust would be needed to press a tablet .875" L x .250" OD?

It depends to what density the tablet will be compressed.

Volume x Density of tablet = weight of saw dust required.

A density sufficient to maintain the tablet integrity upon release of compression.

Thanks

How much compression is required to create a tablet density sufficient to maintain it's integrity upon release?

That would be dependant on a combination of factors that may include chip size, fiber legnth, pitch content, and other charistics of the saw dust. You may even need to add a binder if the tablets are to retain their integrity after handling.

Your finished tablet density would probably wind up somewhere between .7g/cc and 1.1g/cc

Ace Boeringa,

If a binder is needed lignin is first choice handling will minimal.

Thanks

Enough saw dust to fill a volume of 0.043"3 after compression.

The tablet will be snubbed @ .875" L after compression, my question is how much loose material (a ball park) will compress to .875" , will I have a journal of dust 1-1/2" to begin or would it require 2-1/2"?

I will trial and error it yes but some of a guideline is what I seek.

Thanks
