Authors raise concerns about Bush's new stance on 'global warming'

British author and journalist Christopher Booker says President Bush has needlessly caved to international and domestic pressure from activists who believe global warming is human-induced and a threat to the world.

On Wednesday the president unveiled his new global warming policy that seeks to stop the growth of greenhouse gas emissions by 2025, but it is drawing fire from both sides of the debate on climate change. Democrats and environmentalists say the initiative falls short because it does not include a mandatory cap on carbon emissions. Meanwhile, global warming skeptics point out that global temperatures have not continued to rise over the last ten years as they did in the 1990s, so there is no real climate threat for the pesident to address.

Christopher Booker is co-author of the new book Scared to Death, which details scientifically unfounded concerns regarding various "scares," including global warming. "From Europe, where they're completely bananas about global warming, we've been looking at the States to hold the line -- to stay sane. And it is very worrying that all this pressure that has been piling up for the last 20 years might finally push your president and your administration into doing something which, I think in five or ten years' time, may look to have been a massive and misguided overreaction," Booker contends.

According to Booker, the theory that global temperatures rise due to increased levels of carbon dioxide is fundamentally wrong, and the world is not getting hotter as all the computer models were predicting.

Richard North, the other co-author of Scared to Death and former research director in the European Parliament, says for years Bush has been hit with pressure from the U.N. and the European Union to take action to curb global warming.

"If you press the right buttons and you get the media on your side, which plays an enormous part, and you calculate the message to sound plausible and get a lot of gray-faced people -- especially scientists, the new religion; the high priests of scares are the scientists -- if you can get a group together with enough gravitas, it is extremely difficult for politicians to resist," North points out.

According to North, global-warming "agenda pushers" have effectively exploited the psychological makeup of people to evoke a "scared" response.">

Kind Regards....

Yes, Bush caved in to the envirowackos and thier nefarious captain. Perhaps they danced before him and he was mesmerised by thier AlGorithym. There must have been a political tradeoff somewhere in the mix. The new (old) religion is certainly gaining a foothold. I'm glad to see someone still has the nerve to protest.

Careful what you say. Slowly move to the window (No, don't turn on that light!) and, without moving the curtains, look across the road. See those black Chevy Suburbans? "Dear, what say we go to Gitmo instead of Majorca this year?"

A few years ago it was over population and we would all stave to death, now it is global warming and we will all die of thirst, do something about it and we will all die of poverty. Take your pick.

Does anyone else remember the "global cooling" scare amid the (nonexistent) gas shortage during the early '70s?
