I need help figuring out what joystick i need. I am building a working model of a electric mine shovel and am using five 24vdc gearmotors. I do know I want single axis, spring return to center miniture switches. I need to be able to reverse each motor and gradualy increase and decrease speed. My largest motor pulls 1.4 amps, this is where my electrial knowledge ends. Thank you.

Otto Engineering or Mason Electric. Both manufacture mil and commercial switches that should meet your requirements. They do custom work as well.

Go digital

I'd forget doing things analog...digital control is much easier. Each motor would need an encoder. A simple microcontroller could have a small feedback loop so the shovel would stay in place if you let go of the joystick. An H-Bridge would provide directional and speed control for each motor. Good luck!
