Thermite vs Liquid Nitrogen

07/10/2006 10:17 AM

I tried to think of something smart and engineering to say about this clip, but it's just cool.
What happens when thermite meets liquid nitrogen.
As an extra bonus what happens when thermite hits a full gas tank.

Wow that's cool

The glass holding the nitrogen is completely vaporized in the process. Why doesn't the grass light on fire?

I think that it is reduced to vapor before anything can really catch fire. Also Termite doesn't retain heat very well, if I recall correctly.

Forget Mentos and Soda, this is how you do a backyard chemistry experiment.

Are the Brainiacs an English version of Mythbusters?

No, more like the Man Show with a brain! The Mythbusters are a cut-up, Wyly Coyote school of Physics (everything I know about physics I learned from the cartoons of the early 60's, break out your slide rules kids).
