KV METER

04/26/2008 5:59 AM

I HAVE A 40 KV METER, & AT PRESENT WE R USING 33 KV LINE VOLTAGE

THE PROBLEM IS THAT : MY METER SHOWS VARIATION IN DIAL, i.e. AT 33 KV LINE VOLTAGE IT SHOWS 38 K.V., AFTER ITS CALIBRATION I M NOW SURE THAT IT IS OK, IT MAY ALSO BE POSIBLE THAT OUR P.T NEEDS CALIBRATION, BUT IT CAN BE MORE COSTLIER,

SO MY BOSS GAVE ME SUGGESTION THAT USE RESSISTANCE IN SERIES IN K.V meter, so that AFTER ACHIEVING 33 KV. IN METER, I'LL STOP THE RESISTANCE.

BUT... NOW HOW CAN I FIND THE RESISTANCE VALUE FOR 40 KV METER SO THAT I CAN ACHIEVE IT AS 33 KV.

FOR ANY FURTHER CLARIFICATION, PLEASE GIVE ME UR PERSONAL I.D. COZ, ITS NOW A GOOD QUESTION FOR ME.

I M ALSO AVAIALABLE ON

Personally, If I were concerned about the accuracy I would locate a trusted metrologist and have it properly calibrated and tested.

If I were using it in a questionable environment I would certainly inform the metrologist about all concerns and variables which might cause readings to deviate from expected results.

If I felt that I were an expert in that field, I might invest in some standards (Costly). But since that is not my expertise I would turn to someone who is an expert and trust His/her judgement.

just my .02 worth

Usually meters and PT are very good even when not calibrated. Your error is extremely large. Are you certain that the line voltage is 33KV? If the meter has a magnetic mouvement, it could be influenced by stray magnetic fields from nearby transfoemers of other magnetic devices such as a plating rectifier.

Your problem might not be the meter itself.

Good luck.
