A Data Center Room Partition

04/28/2008 4:28 AM

We have divided our raised floor areas into 2 different IT companies. Both of them will install their own data center for office purposes. But for that, they demand a secure partition, from below the raised floor up to the slab above the ceiling. Is anybody know what kind of partition we should build? Any reference's website? Thanks

You can get 'cages' for this purpose. Where abouts are you in the world?

I don't know, but they demand a separate M/E eq, including the precision AC too, ouch...

Btw, we're somewhere in South East Asia.

Maybe if your datacentre is quite small you go simple and buy keylockable racks with different keycodes, or probably better still, with a keypad, so you can set up your own codes.

In Australia look at http://www.brdatasystems.com.au, or there are plenty of rack manufacturer in SE Asia that I'm sure would supply with keypads if you ask.

Infact, each room after separation is about 100sqm. The policy was we only support the electricity (the power in that matter), so they can adjust all system independently, including AC. So, they demand a good secure partition as I mentioned before. So, the secure rack thing won't work, but after your reply first time, I have an idea. Maybe, they'll accept the cage (for the security reason, thanks for it) but with solid alum panel finishing (for a stronger but slim separation). Any product like this?

Thanks....

Try honeycomb aluminum with finished sides. Strong thin and lightweight. Good stuff.

Let's count:

- You have to divide the room to two same size parts: you have to ensure a fireproof separation and it can be useful if the wall could give a sort of thermal insulation. In addition, protection against electromagnetic emanation can also be useful. You also have to ensure the isolation under the raised floor. A metal cage covered with dry wall on both side can be sufficient.

- You have to ensure the independent power system. That means that you will have two UPS systems

- You have to ensure the independent air conditioning, so you will need to duplicate the AC system

- You will need two, independent connections to the local telco/WAN provider so you will need two uplinks

2 X spaces; 2 X UPS systems; 2 X AC mains; 2 X WAN links; add 2 X separately keyed door locks, so that's 10 pieces. Sounds about right...
