Area Classification

04/29/2008 1:14 PM

Hello Frnds,

We have for our project Clasified for Cl1, DIV 1, Gas group C,

If I have to change for zonal classification(as per clients stds),i would assume (If I am nor wrong to be) CL1 , Zone ( ?) , Gas group II B

Now my problem is how to change Div to Zone , should i go for Zone 0 or Zone 1

Regards

Jose

Well DIV1 is classified as "gas likely to/can exist under normal operating conditions" (which sort of matches Zone 1). Zone 0 is "continuous or long term" presence of gas (such as inside a storage tank).

I cannot really say as there will likely be other requirements due to differences in the standards (they are not completely interchangeable). One of the main differences of course is DIV1 could mean either Zone 0 or Zone 1. You will need to assess yourself (or get someone else to) if this particular site is either Zone 0 or Zone 1.

The last reply was INCORRECT:

Div 1 = zone 0 and zone 1 (therefore you have to pick the worste case and make it zone 0) This is confimed by the fact that you cannot install zone 1 rated equipment in a div 1 location (you need to use zone 0 equipment), BUT you can install div 1 equipment in a zone 1 location (BUT not a zone 0 location). confused yet?

Div 2 = zone 2.

Div System Zone System

Div 1-------Zone 0

-------Zone 1

Div 2-------Zone 2
