perpetual motion yes or no

04/30/2008 12:56 PM

There seems to be four different opinions about perpetual motion.

1- Those who are stubbornly convinced that it is not possible.

2- Those who believe that at least in some cases it is possible.

3- Those who confuse perpetual motion with overunity.

4- Those who could care less. IT IS THIS GROUP WHO ARE OVER POPULATING THE EARTH WITH THEIR OWN VERSION OF PERPETUAL MOTION.

And then there's:

5. Perpetual motion is inherently unprovable because:

a) Some portion of the universe's existance has already occurred. Any human-built device can only exhibit motion from approximately this moment of time onward. That rules out a true "perpetual". At best it can only be a "from here on out" machine.

b) this requires constantly observing the device from the moment it begins operation until the end of the universe. Since "end of the universe" is by definition the end of all events within the universe, it would be impossible to reach a conclusion about the unit since that would require taking an action after the end.

The EARTHS ROTATION ON ITS AXIS is the very best example of perpetual motion I can think of. No body alive today saw it start. Likely no one alive will see it stop. I HOPE! WHEN THAT MOMENT OCCURS, I WILL CEASE TO BELIEVE IN PERPETUAL MOTION. Until that day comes or my time alive stops I will continue to believe that perpetual motion is possible. Penetrating the minds of some folks' may not ever be possible.

The only things necessary to create an invention is a curious mind and a pile of junk. Remember this, " when Joshua fit the battle of Jerico the fools inside the city did not think that some horns would knock down their walls. The vibrations were an excellent example of what perpetual motion can do." Beginning an example of perpetual motion doesn't mean that you cannot stop it.

In the fact that you acknowledge it started and will come to an end then its not perpetual. I do not understand how humanity being present changes the definition of the word.

I don't challenge your perception of what is and is not perpetual. but as far as my living long enough to witness the great boom, this said to be inevitable, and I wasn't around to witness the first one, I am compelled to accept that mother earth knows what is best and will continue to spin. PERPETUALLY!

Well you need to go back and talk to your mother earth because her spin is slowing down. Which is a sign that her motion is not perpetual.

Ozzb! I think I read something about that in a science journal. However another opinion I read surmised that the Earth could speed up its rotation if a comet passed close enough to help her out. As no one alive today is likely to witness DOOMS DAY, I find much comfort in thinking positive. As in I feel that we will find a way around thermo's law just like some scientist's found a way to prevent polio.

In fact what you write confirms your acceptance that the rotation is NOT perpetual since it needs an outer source to accelerate again.

A perpetual motion is one which maintains its initial speed (not zero) constant, if earth gets slower than it is no perpetual motion.

It is quite funny how many times this perpetual stuff comes again and again.

It is a lot of fun as well to see how you supply yourself arguments against your own theory.

I do not consider that you are wrong in believing in perpetual motion i think every body is free to believe in what he wants but what i do not understand why those who do not believe are stubborn and those who believe are not. Could you explain why you make the difference, is it only justified by the fact that you are a believer? Or do you consider that believer are more open minded? or more far seeing people?

The only adult people who I've met that believe in the idea of perpetual motion have a firm grasp on something.. whatever it is?... it's not very scientific.

but I haven't met everyone, so I can't say anything.

There is a mention of someone, somewhere who believes in perpetual motion.

Perhaps I am he.

About 10 years ago I invented an energy system for producing electrical power and called it " Perpetual Power". From the earlier discussion referring to the rotation of the earth it was just that.

Operated by tidal movement, yet constant in the energy supply it was virtually perpetual motion and still is. Whilst trying to get anyone interested and I am immediately classified as a crank.

The whole thing was easily understood and amazingly cheap to construct in bulk.

Perhaps it should have had complexity so that politicians could be baffled and claim it as wonderful.

The term in 3 would be "net over unity".

This seems to be more and more where

the on the edge of the envelope persons are

working with. I have seen some concepts that

look good for net over unity in the near future.

I belong to the second group. I want to do some homework. Do you have any links that spotlight progress in this subject?

Your search just started, but you have the passion to search forever?

I think you found your perpetual motion machine.
