Accurate RIV measurement is a laboratory test which, in the U.S. is defined in NEMA Standards Publication No. 107, "Methods of measurement of radio influence voltage (RIV) of high-voltage apparatus".
On site, the simplest means of detecting objectionable generated RIV (and corona) is with a battery-powered AM radio tuned to approximately 1 megahertz. Battery-powered corona detectors are also commercially available for field or on site use.
