Auxillary Power Sharing

We have AUx load of 500 kw Like blower fans, cranes, compressors, vibratory motors but when all the loads running we observed that load is not shared equally. The KW Loading is varying on all the phases. The load what ever we have is three phase only. Can any one tell what may be the possible reason

Hello Guest,

The kW loading on any phase varies according to the actual load on it at the time.

I understand that you are concerned, because all loading is 3 phase, there being no single phase equipment. - if this is untrue, please advise re the single or two phase equipment at the works.

Do you have Power Factor correction at the motors?

If not, do you have Power Factor correction applied to the Works installation as a whole?

Could you give a detailed description of each piece of equipment/Motor, along with nameplate details?

The answers you give may help solve your problem.

It is entirely possible you have a faulty CT or two, or mechanically sticking Ammeters.

Thanks for providing this scenario. It has helped me to understand a real life application of theory I learned in my engineering training. I had worked on small single unit power projects from time to time. However. I feel out of place when some one ask me how to determine and ensure the efficiency of a power system in on a factory plant or a commercial complex. It is perhaps a basic thing if one looks at it superficially, but I am sure that putting the respective network together and the required parts to implementing it requires so serious thinking and budget consideration.

It sounds like you have a ground fault on one of your phases.....Try switching off each load one at a time until the situation clears up......If you switch off a load and the situation clears up you have found your problem....If the load is a motor you need to change the motor......

I am assuming you have no single phase loads on the system....
