Nominal US equivalent is Sae 1020 or 1025.

Commercial reality: SAE 1018 is what we would tend to have more readily available if cold finished.

Thanks Milo,

I couldn't find anything. We designed a cover out of aluminum and asked our China suppler to quote it. They complained that our walls were too thin, the heat treat we asked for would distort the part, blah, blah, blah, ... so we asked if they could cast is out of steel and this is what they came back with.

I couldn't find GB20-25 any where, not even a honorable mention on MATWEB.com

Well steel usually isn't the direct substitute for aluminum, but I have to tell you my China Aluminum Story. Then maybe you'll understand the "objections"

We were in Beijing in 2003 on a study mission visiting various shops and we happened tp have a world authority (post doc) aluminum guy with us .

Third ort fourth sho we finally see some aluminum being machined.

We could hardly contain ourselves. What grade/ What Temper/ What ? What ? What?

thre enineering school interpreters, two Ph.D in material /metallurgy,. my self, we spent 35 minutes trying to just find out the "grade" of aluminum.

Grade A.

Honest. It is Grade A. Good stuff.

Grade A.

Unbelievable.

(we had no problem with the steel grades, BTW, but Aluminum, In China, In this shop, only came in Grade A.)

Aluminum is VERY DIFFICULT to source there.

You are welcome of course.
