Instrument Impulse Line Hook-up for Steam Line

07/30/2006 9:37 AM

We have a peculiar problem.we have to install a DP type transmitter in a 32" steam line running along the ground level and the transmitter to be installed above the line.( Line ia at 1mts level and instrument is at 2.5 mts level)

Can anybody furnish an impulse line hook up with instrument above the tapping point taking care that steam will not damage the instrument .Is it possible to install the instrument above the tapping points?

Steam Flow Measurement

I think your best bet is to contact the rep for the manufacturer of the instrument you were planning on using. He or she can best guide you in such an installation. It may be as simple as installing condensate pots above the level of your DP instrument, or it may require something other than DP.

Contact Rosemount. They have remote seal DP transmitters that should do the job for you.

On a 36 inch line the centre line is at least 20 inches from the floor. This is adequate to mount your transmitter/manifold below the centre line.

You didn't mention the process condition; ie.. steam pressure, superheat etc..

But this is done all of the time. bring the impulse straigh up to a condensate collection pot (use a section of 3" pipe 1 ft. long capped top and bottom, the process connection point should be 75% up the side of the pot. let the condensate fill the pot, run the impulse line from the bottom of the pot to the transmitter. the farther away the transmitter is, the cooler the condensate will be. typically 6 - 10 ft.

Any other questions, feel free to contact me.

A pit measuring 4 to 5 foot in depth and 3 to 4 feet wide can be excavated near the pipe line and the transmitter can be mounted in the pit. the pit shall be covered for safety reasons.----charles Dhanaraj- india.
