Seeking CAT6 RJ45 Socket with Disconnector

05/19/2008 10:01 AM

Does anyone have a source for an RJ45 socket that disconnects an outgoing line when a jack is plugged in? This would be similar to a headphone jack disconencting the speakers.

The RJ45 is running a quazi POE (Power Over Ethernet), so I need to disconnect pins 4 and 5 at a bare minimum (V+), preferably 1, 2, 3 and 6 also (Comms). 7 and 8 are GND.

The socket is for a display device, so the plan is with nothing plugged in, the CAT6 cable continues on its path to the primary disaply, mounted on the deadfront of an outside panel. If the operator plugs his remote display in so he can work from his truck and stay out of the snow, I need to avoid data conflicts with the two displays, so the primary disaplay needs to be disconnected. These are hot-swappable.

I know, a hub or similar would do the trick, but that requires PCB changes = $$$$ + time.

Thanks for your help, please post links to data sheets and suppliers, budgetary pricing etc.

GA

Much better than plugging and unplugging as that will ruin the contacts over time.....also no external sparking possible, even at low voltages and currents.....

Thanks Case, I should have mentioned this has to go into an electrical control panel, so I need panel-mount, and preferably a few certifications (UL etc).

Do you know which wires that box switches?

I reckon you can find out all you need to know by following the links on the page or by visiting the original web site. If not, I cannot help you as these products need verification by supplier to be valid.

Good luck.
