Wanted: Easy-to-Use Web Designer

05/19/2008 12:19 PM

I am looking to start a web site for a local group I belong to. I need to include a calendar and notice board that can be easily edited by others not familiar with HTML. I also need to be able to set up different degrees of administration so only certain people can edit specific items. Yahoo appears to have a fairly easy domain host with a web creator and editor. Is anyone familiar with these or any other sites?

It needs to be simple since some people that will be using it are not at all computer savvy.

Why Joomla

  • Joomla is a web application that is installed on the webserver itself so u can manage your website directly
  • Easy installation
  • You don't need any experience in programming or web-design
  • You can manage user rights
  • WYSIWYG editors to edit articles so u can edit contents online without Frontpage or any PC-based application
  • Thousands of extensions and plugins like forums, wiki, image galleries ...etc
  • It is free!

FrontPage is the answer. Make sure your host enables Frontpage extensions.

Do your source codes too.

I've made my first web site using MS Frontpage. It has an editor similar to Word in which you can design your web. Furthermore, upon any thing is added to the web project, there is an "html view" in which you can see how html language is translating your direct instructions (It's helpful when the results are not as expected) and have another possibility to "see" the final appearance at any time.

To begin there is a lot of sites, just googling, with hundreds of free templates which will be helpful till you become expert. Many of those sites usually can host freely your web. Of course you can purchase your own domain. Actually I'm paying about 60$ for it.

Best regards

Try BlueVoda.com You have to use their hosting service, but first rate for ease of use, and support, training and user forums are superb, Timpatco

Hi Charsley99,

For just such a requirement, I made http://www.mfnb.at

It's usable, but I am working on a lot of improvements as we write.

Feel free to give it a go - (it's free anyway)

Hope this helps.

jt.

Have your own free notice board - it's easy! - http://www.mfnb.at

(it also works with .com etc. i.e. other tlds - it just reads better

with My Free Notice Board at.......)

I shall check them out and play around with them. The group I'm with needs about 15 e-mail at minimum and the ability to upload about a hundred or so pictures at a time. Several people each year will need to take over certain functions of the site and maintain dates for functions and rentals. I will be administrator and will probably be the one uploading pictures sent via e-mail or from disk. The designing of the board is no problem. The ability of others involved is the big question. At the very least I will need to train others in the operation of the site. I've used dreamweaver and frontpage before so they're no problem. Just looking for help with ease of use for secondary users

Thanks for the Info.

Hi,

I have built tons of websites and i like to go the easy route.

I have a new site to start tonight that the owner started with Yahoo hosting and their web page builder- what a mess, don't go there. There are so many easy site builders that work like Word which will be easy and ituitive.

Most web hosting plans include easy-to-use html editors. Also most hosting plans have plug-ins available for setting up different levels of access like you need. I recommend a plan that has a cpanel interface. The things you want, such as your html editor will be plug-ins found under your fanstastico (sp?) menu.

I used Front-Page for years. For a while it was an easy program and ituitive compared to most of the others, but these days there are soo many that are free and frankly work better than Frontpage I stopped using it years ago.
