Metallisation in the UK can get this wire for you. Alternatively, if you contact us, we will put you in contact with a local distributor who may be able to help.

2.4mm may be a bit tricky for this amount. 1.6mm would be more usual as a thermal spray wire. It would also help if you confirm your preferred packaging method (MIG reels, coils etc.)

Good luck

Milty.

You don't specify the purpose of thermal spraying some other material with 90/10 CuNi, and do not clarify if you want just 90/10 CuNi (CuNi10 according to European designation) which is an alloy wire used almost exclusively for manufacturing electric resistances, or for pressure/corrosion resistant service in which case, the usual most similar material is CuNi10Fe, with a small Fe addition (about 1%). This last material is usually welded with CuNi30Fe (30% Ni) which is classified as rod and wire welding in AWS A5.7 (ASME SFA 5.7). No pure 90/10 welding wire is classified under AWS nor European standards. CuNi10Fe isn't classified under AWS, but is by DIN 1733 (S-CuNi10Fe) and BS 2901 (c16) and you can find it just in few western filler metals manufacturing companies. You'll find it in Böhler-UTP, which has distributors all around the world. You can find it in some Chinese companies.

Regarding size. 2,4 mm (3/32") is a common size for MIG welding wire.

Best regards

Great answer with loads of details.

My comment regarding 1.6mm relates mainly to metal spray wires. 2.4mm is, as you say, a standard for welding wire. However, due to surface finish and residual surface coatings, welding wires do not always metal spray well.

You're right, welding wires do not always metal spray well but I don't think in this specific case surface coatings be a problem as for example copper coating in carbon steel wires.

Best regards

Hi ,

I would like to weld Cu-Ni (90/10) alloys with MIG-filler wire (UTP A 387 , 1.2 mm diameter). I have tried with Shielding gas Ar70/30He, 100%Ar and Tri-H gas but i am not able to get satisfactory fluidity, which can fuse the base metal.

Thickness of pipe : 4 mm to 6 mm

Can you suggest suitable welding parameter and shielding gas in GMAW for welding of Cu-Ni alloys?

regards,

Subhash

Gentlemen, thanks for the responses. the wire will be sprayed on regular carbon steel, packing would be in MIG spools. I am aware that it is not common to spray this, but when a client asks for something....
