PLASMA CUTTING

05/24/2008 8:18 AM

Dear Sir/s and Respected People of the CR4,

I have a requirement for cutting runner raisers of investment precision castings, the raiser thickness varies from 10mm to 35mm and above. I am looking forward to use air plasma, for the cutting as I understand, that, its less time consuming, cost effective and lesser material loss is generated in compare to oxy-acyetlene gas cutting. I am facing the only problem is that, the gap i have between the main tree and job, i.e. the lenght of the raiser is 25 to 35mm wide, I am facing a problem as to the torch of the plasma is not reaching to the actual depth where i am suppose to cut, where by the arc is not developed. Again, the quality of the cutting is secondary or almost not that important, I request emminent personalities around here to guide me as to how, should i solve this problem, are there any torches available for smaller gap cutting in plasma. Your assistance, will be generously appreciated.

Thankyou,

RAJIV DAMANI

Use a high capacity dual-gas plasma cutting system to allow you a maximum 50mm penetration.

Hey thanks WoRkerz.

but using oxy-acyt. will only leave darkened / oxidized material over the job. again the speed will not be achieved as compared to that of AIR PLASMA. The problem is not what technology has to be used, on that, I am sure to use the Air Plasma only. but the Problem is that, the part which has to be cut, is at the bottom of the job, and the raiser that is where it is attached, and the gap between the job and the raiser where the plasma torch has to be penetrated, is any thing around 25mm to 30mm max. so, the solution what i am seeking is, any such slim torch with the tip of the torch not more than 25mm would solve the problem.

Thank you, again

RAJIV
