I need to develop motor starter 3.3kv

05/25/2008 3:49 AM

In the electrical workshop we have motor starter: GEC, TYPE: HMC 1172, 3.3kv, we use this starter to test all 3.3kv motors, the starter equipment with earth fault relay, thermal overload, voltmeter, ampere meter. I need to develop this starter to give me auto full detail analyses and diagnostic about the motor condition when we testing:

1- Vibration.

2- Rotor: Bars, laminations, balance, center,……

3- Stator: winding, laminations, gabs,

4- Bearing and house bearing.

So please suggest what the test equipment I need.

I believe that you are asking a lot of a motor starter.

I believe you will need a few more instruments.

I must agree you will need more kit for what you are trying to do..

To start with, if you want the most bang for your buck aquire yourself a (Current Signature Analysis Test Set).

than you i read the EMAX data and i think that the ability for this devise giving just the electrical failures but nothing about the mechanical failures and its analysis.

I think you read the tech brief, the Emax portion of the test set can actually show impeller damages in pumps, bearing failures or wear, shaft alignments, etc...

Each component will show up as a side band frequency peak, which on graph looks like vibration monitoring data.. As the problem increases, so does the side band peak, or if a belt is loose on motor driven pulley system it will show high peak, and as you adjust belt the peak will become smaller..

The company who mfgs test set has historical data of most motors, of which will assist user in determining if there is a problem. The user also has ability to set baseline data for in house trending..

these graphs do i need to make analysis to find what and where the fault ,or the devise will give me the fault type auto.

The test set will provide the graphs automatically..

The test set has multiple tests it runs automatically, and then will provide alarms for out of range numbers. The data must still be analysed by the technician, and after training and a bit of real world experience you will be able to pinpoint probable future and current failures. The test set has default alarms preprogrammed, but they are all user adjustable. Once healthy baseline has been recorded in test set, all future tests will have clean reference point.

The website I gave you has more information concerning real world applications, and examples..

You can also cross reference vibration analysis, to determine if the failure will be immediate, or if you have a bit of time. The more data and experience you have using different types of predictive maintenance technologies will ultimately reduce downtime and maintenance costs..

Salamat Pagi Pak

Apa Kabar

I agree with the previous two posts.....You need vibration analsysis equipment.....in conjuction with a very smart Motor Protection Relay...

Tank you, I attend presentation about Motor Condition Monitor (MCM), ( Artesis Co.) For predictive maintenance of three phase systems, including electric motors, generators, transformers, and the equipment or process driven by them. MCM measures only voltages and currents. It has the ability of maintenance planning by detecting impending mechanical and electrical failures at the early stages of fault development through continuous monitoring. But I think there is a main disadvantage with this device, that it needs about 4000 iteration (much time) of learning, which is not suitable for testing procrdure.
