Looking for schematics on induction motor encoder

05/28/2008 2:40 PM

Hi Guys,

I'm looking for pinout schematic for the encoder attached to the motor described below. I did some internet research and as far as I can tell, this company is not in business anymore. Failing that, is there anyway to determine what wire is what just by following them back (to the encoder circuit)? The motor is needed to run some tests.

Motor info:

Company: Induction Motor

Model: IC-10229-0

Thanks in advance...

Imposible to do with only these data. First investigate which type of encoder it is.

Incrementel ? Absolute ? DC tacho generator ? sinus/cosinus generator ?

Each of these have all different ways of working and totally different ways to connect.

Is there no indentification shield on the encoder ?

Thanks for the comment and sorry about the delay.

I'm not sure what type it is. I opened it to find no name or brand whatsoever. See the pic below. It is a rotary glass encoder. This is gonna be quite a challenge, i guess....

This appears to be an incremental encoder the AM26LS31C is the output driver IC. Probably for A, B and Z.

I couldn't quite read what was on the other IC. It may be the driver for the commutation tracks (Halls)

The big resistor is probably used to control/limit current to the LED.

The potentiometers that are tacked in place are factory set to balance the signals coming off of the sensor in order to get the most symmetrical output. (You don't want to mess with these)

You can get the pinout of the line driver here:

http://focus.ti.com/lit/ds/symlink/am26ls31.pdf.

I also have a blog post on 26C31 line driver outputs here: http://quantumdevices.wordpress.com/2009/03/02/interfacing-to-26c31-line-drivers-in-qdi-rotary-encoders/

Pin 16 on the line driver is VCC and pin 8 is GND. You should be able to verify which wires they are connected to, most likely VCC= red and GND = Black. Powre the encoder with 5VDC and see if you get any state changes on the outputs as you rotate the device.

If not, check the inputs to the line driver, pins 1,7,9, and 15 (one may not be used) If you don't see signals coming in there, there is dammage previous to this, possibly in the sensor. If you see signals at the inputs, but not at the outputs, the line driver has likely been taken down. You can remove and replace it.

Let me know if you have any specific questions.

Good day Jim.

I will run the tests and see if this can be figured out. You've provided a great answer.

Thanks a lot.

Rick.
