Lightning protection

05/29/2008 2:31 AM

Is lightning protection for a building under construction required? If yes, how? Which codes (IEEE, IEC etc) to be referred? What about lightning protection for construction during monsoons?

  5. TV Transmitter tower

Dear sir,

I want to clarify my query. I am myself a design engineer and have done enough lightning design considering all parameters and referring to indian standars IS-2309 and BS-6651.

My question is what about the lightning protection for a building, for which slab is not cast. Only columns are cast and vertical steel bars are coming out of it. Can these steel bars be used as lightning protection? If yes, how?

Regards

Check with the insurrance company that underwrites the building project as their input would also have bearing on this.
