Generator Excitation

06/02/2008 1:34 AM

We have a 5 MW Gas Turbine Generator (Turbine of Solar & Generator of Katto).

Recently we have overhauled the generator by local Veendor as well as carried out Turbine Rotor machining by solar.

The observations found regarding the Excitation requirement are as follows.

Before any work,

No load Excitation 18 V

Full Load Excitation requiremnt 36V

After the said work,

No load Excitation 35 V

Full Load Excitation requiremnt 85V

Though the nameplate of exciter shows 100V, 4A

What must be gone wrong to have so much variation in excitation requirement?

Please help me out.

The rating of exciter is 100V, 4A.

It is showing 3.4A at 80V

I.e. it is in linear zone only.
