HELP! Need to Recharge Magnetic Rotor

08/16/2006 1:36 PM

I hope you can steer me in the right direction. I have a 10 inch diameter X 36 long steel drum with rare-earth magnets imbedded in it. the drum has been overheated, and subsequently the magnets have lost thier attraction. can anyone advise a company that might be able to "recharge" this rotor?
Or, a way to do it myself???
thanks Johnny B

Re - Magnetize

If polarity doesn't matter, you can wrap the cylinder with a wire coil. You will need an in-line fuse sized to blow when connected and a light bulb to complete the circuit. When you plug it in to AC the fuse will blow on power up providing in effect a DC current through the coil which should magnetize it.

What is it

If this is a generator then the poles should be alternating. The best way is going to be to replace the magnets as it is doubtful you will ever get them back to their original state.

link to recharging magnets experiment

http://www.rcgroups.com/forums/showthread.php?t=30 7133 This fellow is doing lots of experimenting with demag and remag neos. The link is to a forum thread that on post 7 has the list/links of where each part of the experiment is. It really isn't usually done on neos without special equipment but he was able to get an n45 and n50 back to 96% of original strength. http://www.rcgroups.com/forums/showthread.php?t=30 7133
