Air Compressor Cfm

Dear all

At present i m using 33.3 cfm of air compressor(10 h.p motor), for the cylinder of DIA-15 C.M. & LENGTH-92 C.M (INCLUDING PISTON LENGTH of 12 C.M.)

I m using it to press the material in mixer, in which i m taking the cylinder in up & down motion at every 10 min. of interval upto 30 min. (i.e. 3 times in 30 min.) for some quality checking

i have 03 no. of cylinders of same size

my problem is that: My air compressor always run in load condtion, so i need to purchase 01 more new aircompressor, but of WHAT CFM I REQUIRED ?

can any body tell me how can i find out the figure of CFM that i required

(please assume wet bulb temp. & humidity in ok condition)

You can do a Google search for "air cylinder+CFM+calculate" and see many places to get formulas for calculating air consumption.

You can also reduce your air usage on your present setup almost in half by using Less Pressure on the Retract Stroke. Use an Air Line Regulator and limit the return pressure to the least possible to return the cylinders adequately.

To save even more air use Spring Return Cylinders and eliminate any air use on the Retract Stroke.

Which ever way you choose you should use a Flow Control to slow the Air Flow to the Cylinder Extend Port to keep it from advancing too fast. No or Low Pressure air in the retract side will allow it to run away without restricting flow as it extends to the work.

There is a point to take care of.

Compressing a spring requires force and energy. So that in the active stroke less force will be available and may be a bigger cylinder will be needed which means more compressed air.

The use of a spring return is to be very carefully analysed if the reason is an air economy it can happen that it leads to a negative economy!

cheak for leaks!!!

countinuos compressor workimg is coused sometimes by leaks.

this leaks can sometimes be 20-30% of your consumption.

cheack and seal for noticeable leaks.

afterward, you can make ultrasonic cheak & find the rest leaks.

I assume that C.M. is centimeters? At what pressure are you working your system? If my assumption is correct, you would only require about 5 cubic feet per stroke of your system. I would think you have big issues on controlling your leaks.

If you mean Per Stroke then that is 10 CFM per cycle X 3 cylinders would be eating up the 33 CFM after counting possible long flow lines between the valve and cylinders?????
