Can any one pass on the literature about the detectors used in the encoders and the source of illumination? Also it will help me greatly to understand how the detector works and what is the heart of the present linear encoder technology?

Phototransistors or photodiodes. No one is going to pass on literature to you when it's so easy to find on the internet.
