I have a spring-loaded, self-leveing lift that raises as materials are removed from it (mostly for ergonomics). I am looking to keep stacked, flattened boxes on the lift so they can be taken off and assembled at the beginning of an assembly line. The only problem comes in loading the lift. The boxes start on a pallet, about 500 at a time, and I need to move them all, hopefully at once, onto the lift. It is pointless to move them in small stacks, like 20 at a time, because then I may as well not use the lift. The problem I have is that the lift does not lock in the upright position, it starts going down right when something is placed on it. One idea I had was to roll the lift near the pallet, pick up the pallet with a forklift, slide the boxes 1/2 way over the lift (so the weight is still almost comletely on the pallet), lower the forklift so the spring lift is pretty much fully compressed, then slide the boxes the rest of the way on. I think this will work pretty well, but I want to get some feedback before I break something (or myself). Anybody have any ideas? Thanks.
