which type of Diaphragm valves I should select

06/15/2008 3:17 AM

There are two types Diaphragm valves.Weir type and straight through type.

I will find difficulty when it comes to select rigth selection of type

Commonly we use weir type.why we are using weir type diaphagm valve. Is there any advantages over stright through type.Is thre any disadvantages?

When we should use straight through type, what are its main advantages over the other. Is there any disadvantages

Please clarify perticulars applications and use.

If you compare the diaphragms of these two types, weir type's diaphragm would be more simpler than the straight type. This means, straight type diaphragm has to work for a greater distance/stroke, bigger folding than the weir type. Because of this the life of straight type diaphragm is longer than straight type diaphragm.

Then why should we use straight type at all?

Straight type has lesser pressure drop. For slurry service straight is more suitable. I recall the usages of both the types in saturated brine solution wherein salt crystals on its way abrades the wear much faster.

Thanks for you interest in the reply.

Yes straight type of diaphragm is having less pressure drop.So we should use straight type in most of the applications. But I use to see the very less application than weir.

Commonly I see that people use to select weir type.why?

I understand pump discharge side sometimes we select straight type.Sunction side weir type people use to select.

Hense it becomes confusion which will be suitable selctio,

Is it because of cost impacts?.Are both of them giving bubble tight shut-off?

Please give some tips , apart from slurry applications when and where to select either type.

Please tell disadvantages of each over others.

Finally why weir type preparably?
