The Mindset Six50: Another Electric/Gas Hybrid

06/17/2008 9:13 AM

There's another hybrid out there hoping to capture some of the ever expanding market for a more fuel efficient and cleaner car, but at a pricetag of €50,000 (about $77,200) how many will spring for this new car remains to be seen.

The Mindset Six50, a Li-Ion battery powered electric/gas hybrid, reportedly gets 800 kilometer (496 miles) per charge and tank. Rooftop-mounted solar panels also assist battery charging if need be.

In response to an auto industry that is "too big, too heavy, too expensive," co-founder of Mindset and former Head of Design at Volkswagen, Murat Günak, set out to create a lighter and more efficient car that weighs in at just 650 kilos (1,430 pounds), hence the name Six50. The car features a 70 KW (95 horsepower) engine that tops out around 140km/h (75mph) and goes from 0-100km/h in just under six seconds. The body shape is somewhere in between an SUV and wagon, and should comfortably seat four.

The Six50 is expected to hit the European market sometime in late 2009.

The price tag is great if you live in Europe. It is only the exchange rate that makes it look expensive. Idiots have been paying that much for pickup trucks here in America for years. Take a $12,000 pick-up , cover the box, call it a SUV and sell it for base price $55,000.

If the North American auto industry had any brains, they could easily compete with this for a better price, and performance.

But if they had any brains or vision, we would have been driving something like this 10 to 15 years ago when the impending oil depletion was first brought to the notice of the public.

Apparently the love and worship of money has nothing to do with brains, long term plans, or logic...... only instant gratification, and loss of humanity

Apparently the North American auto industry can't compete, they have to buy the brains from other countries.

Compressed air technology is being used in India to put $5500 USD taxi's on the streets of Calcuta this summer. Check out this alternative to electric/gas hybrids...

Dateline March 2008:
.
Tata Motors, India's largest automaker
is set to start producing the world's first commercial air-powered vehicle. The Air Car, developed by ex-Formula One engineer Guy Nègre for Luxembourg-based MDI, uses compressed air, as opposed to the gas-and-oxygen explosions of internal-combustion models, to push its engine's pistons. Some 6000 zero-emissions Air Cars
are scheduled to hit Indian streets in August of 2008.
.
Another Revolutionary Compressed Air Car

If you can, imagine a vehicle that runs on air, achieves over 100 gas-equivalent mpg and over 90 mph, has zero to low C02 emissions, seats six, has plenty of space for luggage, cuts no safety corners, and costs no more than an average economy to mid-size vehicle.

This is the expected performance of the revolutionary Compressed Air Car that Zero Pollution Motors (ZPM) is introducing to North America. The vehicle is powered by the Compressed Air Engine (CAE) developed by Motor Development International (MDI), a 15-year old company based in Nice, France, and headed by inventor and Formula One race car engineer, Guy Negre. ZPM is the exclusive representative for MDI in the United States.

these cars burn coal for power. They have the lowest overall efficency of any vehicle made.
