Sleuthing out a long obsolete wiring schematic

06/18/2008 4:19 PM

Ok CR4 sleuths. I have a good one.

I work for a cemetery that owns two cremation retorts manufactured by the All Industrial Furnace Company, formerly from Santa Fe Springs, CA. I am having electrical issues with one unit, and am unable to find any documentation in our archive on wiring diagrams, schematics, sequence of operation, etc... Unfortunately this unit differs electrically from its' counterpart, so I can't just look at one and figure out the second.

This unit was installed in 1967, coincidentally the year I was born! I have spoken with several service companies, who want to send a pair of servicemen on a junket to Cincinnati, OH to see what they can figure out. I'm not inclined to ok a mini vacation for two guys who more than likely don't have ten years in the field between the two of them.

I can tell you that the unit ID tag says serial # 6711473 and references drawing # L1701. Beyond that I can't find any other identifying features.

Anyody know of a source of 41 year old electrical wisdom? I'm not holding my breath, but figured I'd throw it out for you guys to chew on!

Dave

Just by an off chance, those furnaces are probably regulated.I would check with the city they are installed in to see if a copy of the prints are archived. I am betting that some type of IQOQ was done even in the 60's. I am sure they can help if you can get thru the red tape and all of the people saying that it is out of our jurisdiction.

Thanks for the replies. I did fire off some e-mails to the company mentioned. Maybe they will know what happened to All Industrial. As far as the IQ/OQ/PQ requirements for Cincinnati, I have not had any luck with the local jurisdictions with documentation.

That is not to say I'm giving up on that avenue either. I will continue to look. I am trying to find a jumping off point for my local electrician to start to diagnose my problem and a schematic would sure be a good start!

Thanks again for the replies and if anybody else has a good suggestion, or even a so-so suggestion, throw it out here!

Your depression-era predecessors were reluctant to ever throw anything away. You've looked through every file cabinet, closet, book shelf, desk drawer, and record box? It's there, somewhere.
