Dear Manoj,

MATLAB is an instrument only for calculation and simulation of different electric/electronic processes as well as other complicated processes in mechanics, chemistry and so forth. If you want to be an excellent engineer and continue to grow up in your profession you have to use the modern methods. MATLAB is one but not only one of them. So, decide in the consequence of this.

Matlab is a set of tools that make solving many types of difficult math problems much easier.

OCTAVE is a free, open source math package very similar to MatLab. See <http://www.gnu.org/software/octave/about.html>

You can download OCTAVE and its manual and tutorials for free and learn most of what MATLAB can do.
