HOT Tapping calculations

Could you tell us what you are hot tapping?

Hot tapping can be a pretty dangerous thing to try to do (especially in a hydrocarbon service). I would suggest leaving it to the pros....

Its a sunnabbabeech on a high voltage line too.

And you better be wearing natural fibres if its a manual blast furnace.

Touche Milo. I was not even thinking about the various types of hot tapping out there. Just assumed that since he was in the mechanical forum he was talking about hot tapping a pipe. My bad...

No harm no foul. I have seen hot forging and hot turning, but never saw anybodytapping red hot material.

If you are hot-tapping a pipe (be it gas or oil) I would leave it to the people who know what they are doing and who have many years experience behind then a calculations to back up the practical. Calculations of this type cannot be done in ten minutes and often require extra thought and consideration of the environment you are working in and the media you are wokring with.

Hot-tapping can and is dangerous for those who know what they are doing never mind those who do not (I am not presuming for one moment that you do not know what you are doing but the fact that you raise the question regarding calculations sends alarm bell's into overdrive in my mind). Oil and Gas can be passing through pipes at extremely high pressures and temperatures and can kill if not treat with respect when working with them. Better to consult than rick anything.
