Regarding Insulation :

Hi all ,

In cold insulation there is one concept called vapor barrier . I want to know how to check the Vapor barrier thickness coz the product data sheets describes that XXXX DFT .How to ensure that xxxx DFT is applied over the insulation material .Kindly provide the details .

We produce vapour barrier here in Canada. The thickness of the material can be measured by weighing the material. Take a known length (in our plant we use one metre) and weigh it. The specific density of PE which is the material we use is approximately 0.92. Our vapour barrier is 0.006" thick. For a 102" wide vapour barrier, 1 metre long and 0.006" thick, the sample should weigh approximately 365 grams.

The protectant is blended in with the polyethylene, so it is evenly distributed throughout the plastic.

In Canada these specifications are controlled by a standards board.

Hi , Thkx 4 ur comment . I do agree with ur comment . It can be done for a sample test. but when it is applied on the equipment .How can u ensure the DFT xxxxx mm . Here we are using Foster 60-38 as our vapor barrier . It comes in mastic form .So when we apply over the equipment and over the reinforcement we have to ensure that DFT is 1.2 mm to ensure the water vapor permeability of 0.018 perms . So kindly provide any information u have . Regards Earnest.
