You can make a wind Mill power with a vertical shaft having two halves of 200 litre drum fixed with the shaft making it look like an S from top.

The vertical shaft with suitable bearings to take the moment load witll rotate even in small wind. You can use vertical drive or make it horizontal with bevel drive and use the power.

You can use such wind turbice on small lakes to agitate water. Here the systemby mounted on a float with stirrer below the float inside water.

Hi and welcome to this great Forum.

Just by way of encouragement for you, even if you have a 'professional' company come in and install a 'professional' system, it can all go pear-shaped very easily.

I have had two wind-power (or energía eólica as they say here in Spain) installations and both have failed for the same two reasons:

1. The siting was inappropriate (there was turbulence caused by nearby trees and buildings) which hence reduced the output (since the turbine has to stop and start up again and again when the wind shifts and turns it on its shaft).

2. The nice gentlemen who fitted the two different models (both supposed to produce a max. of 1kWh) didn't fit them to the ground well enough. Click the following picture if you want to view one of the installations and see what can happen if you don't get it tied down well enough.

Good luck and OVER ENGINEER!

Joe

Hi Joe Bath,

I found your story about your installation issues compelling, and have posted it at GreenBuildingTalk. We are starting a Wind Power Forum, and I believe many of our readers will gain some very good insight from your experiences. Thank you!

Jamie
