Big Joe Electric Forklift

06/26/2008 5:04 PM

I have an older model Big Joe electric forklift that we converted into an elevator. It is used mostly in the winter to load wood onto the upper deck. Recently, with hardly any weight on it it makes this sound like it needs lubrication. I am not sure as to the type of hydrolic fluid to use and if there could possible be some other problem

By what you say sound like it needs lubrication is not the same as needing hydraulic oil. By saying it makes a sound. Is the sound continuous as you raise the mast. Or does it start at some point near the top of its lift capacity. If the latter is the cast it is low of hydraulic oil. Lower it all the way and correct the reservoir level. Don't over fill.

Its been a long time but i do believe the mast roller bearing have grease inserts on them may want to all so give them a shot of grease while your at it.

If you find that the hydraulic oil reservoir is full you may want to check that the hose clamps on the suction line is tight. It may be loose hose and sucking air.

As far as what type of fluid an ISO 32 will do or Dextron II transmission fluid will meet the specs. I have used Dextron II many times and Big Joes fluid was red maybe ATF.
