06/28/2008 9:38 AM

What are the main advantages of using bus bars than cabels.

Eg:- Using same cross section of copper bus bar and cabel.

Thanking You,

I'm not an engineer but practical experience tells me that a buss bar is better in two ways. First the buss bar should be able to act as a better heat sink and secondly the area exposed to potential corrosion is vastly reduced in the buss bar.

Having spoken to an electrical engineer friend of mine, it appears the only advantage the buss bar has is in the area of corrosion.

I am electrical engineer & specialist in BusWay BW ( Busduct or bus bars )

1 Size : Cables Huge compared to BW which needs Low space requirments

2 90 deg Bend; You can not do it with cables but simple to do it with BW

3 Voltage drop; high in cables compared with busway

4 Fire load : Cables very high compared with neglected value of BW

5 Install cost ;Cables 30 % more than BW

6 Short circuit ; In Cables Max 90 KA but BW Up to 200 KA

7 Tap off MCCB ; Hard & need time to make it but in BW to be clicked in 5 minutes

8 Material Cost Depend on the project volume but approx BW higher 25-50 % more if

the bars are copper & approx the same if bars areAluminum

9 Best manufacturers ;for Busway are GE, Spectra-USA & Siemens, Sentron-USA

10 Reusable ; Cables became Scrab & sold by Kg but You can re-use or expand BW

11 Service life ; BW has very long service life

12 Magnetic field; BW has Minimum

13 Range & Amperage ; BW has Wide ranges with different applications up to

5000Amp & more than this you can duplicate it ( As twins )
