Femto Coulomb Amplifier - Design and Win Prize

09/12/2006 10:54 AM

I have a challenge. Design a Femto Coulomb Amplifier and win a prize. I have 1us pulsed signal of 0.1fC charge with 10ns rise time and decay time and want to amplify it above noise with S/N > 10. The capacitance of the detector source is 100pF, which hold this charge from an Ion Beam Source. I want to amplify it to 10mV/fC. Output rise time and decay time of 50ns is acceptable. Use any real components that are discretely available on the market. Test the design and let me know how it works. Do not use an imaginary design or non-existant components. The best working design will be entitled to a prize of US$1000. If a design is accepted and agreed then the real circuit can be sent to us for final testing. I hope this will help some great engineers to try our their skill.

I'll be happy to discuss design ideas but you will not be eligible for prize. This design is on the cutting edge and requires real engineering work.

I will monitor the developments for 90 days.

i'm not electronic, no technical opinions. Just some formal aspects:

1- nice initiative: offer to our young colleagues food for the mind . . .

and money for the pocket . . .

2- it is not clear how to apply to the contest

3- who is the judge ?

4- should applications be sent to you or pubblished on this site ?

let everybody have these info

ciao joe

I have enough funds to pay to any one doing this design idea in working form. It is not impossible to design as I do design and manufacture. Purpose is to promote some new thinking to see if things can work better.

While design may take less than US$100 value parts, the prize of US$1000 is good enough to take initiative. Person who can design and develops himself / herself this idea sure knows what he/she has achieved. Even though I am the final judge to avoid bluff but in real sense the developer circuit is the actual judge. In fact there is little chance to cheat or bluff.

It is a way to hunt the hidden capable minds.

Hi sir,

I'm interested in this contest. But whether it is finished or alive.

For my research I need FemtoCoulomb charge amplifier. So I'm started building it. Can you give me some suggestions sir...
