TV Commercials

07/12/2008 11:34 AM

Is there a device that will change to another TV channel(Music channel, etc.) while TV commercials are on and return back after they are over?

It's called a 'Remote Control' and it's operated by your hand!

Hello Caruso

Read the Article: http://www.realtechnews.com/posts/3955

The Audiovox / Terk VR-1: The Solution (?) for Overly Loud TV Commercials

is shown at the left.

It would be possible to add some small extra adaptor to this device, to auto-switch the TV to a different User-selected channel, when the higher Audio Level of Advertisements arrives, then auto-switch back when the advertisements are finished.

Of course legislation may be brought in, by advertisers, to prevent sales of such an adaptor.

Kind Regards....

Thank you for your idea. I think we could use this device by taking the signal created by the volume change from this box to activate a mechanical device which will press/activate the "recall" button of your remote to change to a preset channel and back. Other devices that can also detect volume changes could be used. We need to ask Spock to do some drawings for us or suggest available devices.

I think I will solve this problem as soon as I get more info on this matter.

Thanks for your input!

Hello you all !!!

If such device become popular TV stations wiil go out of business, no more free tv, someone have to sacrifice and watch few commercials. What I hate about commercials is that always have a higher volume level and too many in the sequence.

In case you haven't noticed (as in, maybe you're late to the broadcast TV experience), much of what once was "free TV" has already faded into history; and still, broadcasters always find the means for their advertising sponsors to be seen and heard. One way is to insert advertising into the "regular" programming; another is to be seem in that the quality of much advertising programming now exceeds that of "normal" programming - the ads are more entertaining than the regular programs!.

But all this - even - overlooks the most important consideration - the consideration that makes the question of tinkering with TV (sound) volume pretty much irrelevant: namely, the transition from analog to digital broadcasting. As the holy grail of programming--that is, the eventual total integration of TV and all forms of programming on the internet--is achieved, you may expect that (with the interactive capabilities thereby made possible) in the not so distant future advertisers, programmers, and broadcasters will know as much as you about your TV watching habits and preferences: what you watch; what you like or don't like watching; when you watch; who else watches your TV set; etc, etc, etc. I short, the advent of integrated interactivity made possible by digital will ensure that ad messages can be delivered to TV viewers in spite of all efforts to avoid them. In other words, Sound is not the only way to "turn up the volume."

Buy one of those FM sound re-transmitters. I'll describe mine, which I bought "free" for about $5 S&H-only from a credit card offer.

The small base transceiver unit site next to the TV and plugs into an audio output, such as earphone outlet, on the TV. The tunable earphone head set receives FM signals in two switchable bands. One of the bands can be tuned, in addition to radio broadcasts, to the TV audio output; the other tuned to a desired FM radio station. While "watching TV" and listening through the headset, if a nuisance commercial begins, I need only to reach up to my ear, push-flip the FM band selector on the head set, listen to the radio until regular TV programming returns, and then flip the head-set band selector back to receive TV audio.

I never tried . . . but for group TV listening I think it should be possible to use multiple headsets so that each TV viewer could make independent choices about hearing televised commercials.

Also . . . many TVs have Mute buttons on the remote; I've taught my finger where that one is . . . just below the Back (channel) button.

I'm spoiled I use my DVR [digital video recorder], I rarely watch anything in real time so I can fast forward through the commercials.

If someone did make it they would come. With a lot of money to buy you out.

Phillips had a device on there tv's in the late/early 80's/90's that clamped the audio at a pre-select level that you set. It worked to some extent, some commercials were just to loud but it did help.

On the use of DVR's you still watch the commercials but faster.

I think the OP would like something to just cut all the commercials out and not see or hear....wait that called pay cable HBO, Show time, Stars....etc. etc. DVD's....
