Do you have a family to support? Do you really WANT to do it, or do you hanker for hands on real life experience in a job.

It's a wise man who knows what he really wants.

Try the Del the Cat coin test...
Say 'heads I go into industry, tails I do the masters'...
Toss the coin... if you find yourself saying...'Right that's what I'll do then you know what you want to do.

Or... if you find yourself saying...'make it best of three' you then know what you don't want to do.

Good luck with whatever you choose.

Del

Wisdom in the coin flip, this kitty knows his probabilities as well as statistics.

That was good advice del.

Poster, figure out the return on investment assuming that you know that there is in fact demand for MS engineers.

I couldn't prove that. Companies hate to pay high salaries!

Don't overlook the possibility of doing both. Many larger companies will pay for your MS degree, which you can earn while you work. It's a gruelling few years, but has distinct advantages.

In my humble uneducated opinion it sounds like your eager to get started like everyone else, that means your program of study has "lit your fire", great, but the fact is from an employers perspective with a BS you'll just be another "me too" in the bull pen ..........remember the reason it's called a Masters is because you are supposedly at a higher level of understanding (an elite group- that will get a laugh) and with some well thought intern projects your actual capabilities (what really matters) will be well on their way as well.

A Masters generally = more money, more respect, and more opportunity - but not always, how you market yourself is up to you.

I work for several very good engineers who kick themselves for not pursuing their MS or higher and wind up working for some moron who did.

If you want to be a good Mechanical Engineer, while working on your Masters go work / intern in a machine shop (that place they design / make / repair stuff) while your in school. Try to start as a fabrication laborer and then, ... when you get some "walking around sense",...... try to apprentice with a tool and die maker,.... listen don't talk.

Your already asking questions, that's a good sign, Good luck!
