Anyone Familiar with VACON Inverters? I have some problem.

07/21/2008 2:03 AM

Dear All

I have Vacon brand inverter (5.5 CXS4A2IA) installed in one part of my Corrugator machine. The inverter controls the speed of motor which rotates a shaft having slitting tools. I want that when I enable the inverter and speed reference = 0V, it provide 5HZ output frequency to motor (like an idle speed) but there is no any parameter found except "Minimum Speed". When I set a value in this field, the inverter adds such value in out put frequency when I provide 0-10VDC signal to drive.

For example, if I set 0-10V = 0-100HZ, means 1volt = 10HZ and then set a value say 5 in "Minimum Speed", now drive provides almost 5HZ if speed reference = 0 but if I give a speed reference 1volt, the out put frequency, which should be 10HZ, increases at almost 15HZ.

Normally there is a parameter in inverters "Minimum Frequency" and if we set a value in this parameter, the drive provides same output frequency when it enables and the speed reference = 0V.

Please help how I can set the idle speed of the motor connected with this inverter.

Assuming you are in the US and could not find local assistance with Vacon. That is because Vacon is only marketed by Eaton / Cutler Hammer in the US as their "9000" Series (SV9000, SVX9000, SPX9000, LCX9000 etc. etc.). A call to their tech support may be able to get answers.

But you might not want to tell them you didn't buy it as a Cutler Hammer drive

Search for your preset references.

The ninimum is acting as a 'bias' or 'offset' which is common. If there are no other parameters, such as Low Limiter, which are not related to signal scaling, you may not be able to achieve this within the vacon.

Otherwise, you could put a trip amplifier (display or volt sensing relay) across the 0-10V and sense when 1 volt or lower on the reference, then use the output to call for a preset speed set at 5Hz.

Why do you want a minimum of 5Hz when 0-10V demands a lower speed?

If using Fuji or some other brands, you will fing you can set the signal scaling separate to the High and Low Speed Limiters.
