Land Shark?

09/18/2006 11:22 AM

Ok, so this shark doesn't walk on land, I couldn't resist. Some scientists in Indonesia have discovered dozens of new species, including a shark that can walk on it's fins. The team from U.S.-based Conservation International also warned that the area — known as Bird's Head Seascape — is under danger from fishermen who use dynamite and cyanide to net their catches and called on Indonesia's government to do more to protect it. Here is the story.

How does one fish with dynamite? Do the dead fish rise to the surface? How do you get dynamite to explode under water?

An underwater fuse does the trick, but that may not even be needed. Yes, the pressure wave kills the fish and most rise to the top.

Sharks that walk on the land are called attorneys here in the states.

You won't need dynamite, either. Usually any accident, medical mishap, or corporate scandle causes them to surface in large numbers.

Fish with dynamite? Light the fuse and throw it in. Not all of the fish are dead, some are just stunned, so you have to be on your toes to scoop them up with a net. How do you get dynamite to explode underwater? Throw it in water. The fuse and cap are waterproof.

Fisherman? I was a redneck before going off to college to become an engineer.

Both, skill I developed as a youngster, precision from practice, discipline and better tools. It takes skill to judge the length of fuse, crimp the fuse to the cap, and tape it up tight, but precision comes from the side scanning fish finder and GPS to find the honey hole again. Skill and precision, a deadly combination.

It has been (insert statue of limitations) years since I fished this way, I now prefer the legal methods, and reserve the dynamite for the beaver dams, which make spectacular explosions. I wish I had video taped them.

Remnds me of the story:

Old Joe was a good fisherman, always bringing back the biggest and best fish, no one knew joe's sectets for locating the fish or what he uses to catch them. One ay the Game Warden asked Joe if he could go fishing with him "just one time". Old Joe said "Sure be here tomorrow at 5 AM"

So,the next morning after paddling for an hour or so through the misty lake, joe pulls his paddle from the water, and the game warden does the same, and the canoe drifts to a stop. Old Joe opens his creel, takes out a 1/2 stick of dynamite, lights the fuse and tosses it over the side. after a few seconds of watching in horror, the dynamite explodes, and fish float to the surface, Joe picks up the biggest one, and puts it in the boat and starts paddeling to a new spot.

The game warden starts yelling at Joe, recouunting the laws and regulations he has just violated, and how Joe will spend most of the rest of his wretched life in jail. Old Joe opens his creel, lights another sitck and tosses it into the lap of the game warden, saying, "Are you gonna talk all day, or are you gonna fish?"
