DC Arc Flash Analysis

07/30/2008 8:49 AM

I am sure this question has popped up on these forums before, but I wasnt able to find anything with a quick search.

I am in the process of doing an arc flash study and have run across a DC circuit. I have not done a DC analysis before and I am looking for advise.

The following is the one-line for the respective circuit; I also have conductor size and length, but that is it. Can I do the study without a cutsheet on the rectifier? If so, where should I start?

Thank you in advance for your assistance.

Excuse me but i can not understand the question exactly( possibly my english is not enough).

1-Do you want to study the "arching on the breaker" ? If so, take a look at http://cr4.globalspec.com/thread/24765#newcomments then i can reply other questions if any.

2- Do you want to operate the load in a flashing manner ?

Please indicate.

Best regards

Hi : You need to start with calculating or estimating the short circuit current available at the 120v/60hz supply point ( e.g. it could be 3000amps). Then there are more calcs involved to get to the 'arc flash hazard and energy level'.
