Ceramic Beads and Ceramic Spheres

From a ceramic slip (raw materials, water and dispersants), how do I make ceramic beads or spheres (7-mm diameter) without intern porosity and with a large capacity per hour of production? Do you know a process?

Two that I know. Smaller stuff look under spray drying. Larger "Ball Like" casting will be the more economic choice. The method for producing ball bearings is basically melting the ceramic it self and dripping the material from a spout or nozzle and allowing the surface tension to form the sphere. Here you will have a nice round and smooth ball to start with. Sizing and surface treatment are needed if these balls are to be used for bearing applications.

Thank you very much for your answer. I know these two process. But with the dripping process (ceramic slip + alginate passing in a nozzle and gelification in a reactor), I am limited a bead diameter (after firing) of +/- 3mm. I search an other process to make beads with diameters between 4 and 8 mm. I make tests by uniaxial pressing of ceramic granulate in a matrix, but I obtain too much intern porosity and if I increase the compression force I obtain cracks in the beads.

The ceramic industry forms "green balls" with a ball wrapping method that has the ability to form much denser beads or balls than pressing. The wrapping method virtually eliminates internal porosity.

Eirich (I have no connection to them but have used their equipment) is one of the International companies that makes ball forming "pans". This method yields a properly sized ball but one that is slightly irregular in shape. Typically this is the state at which they are fired.

These ball forming pans require auxiliary equipment. The ore is fed in dry and combined with a liquid in the pan.
